Amelia Earhart Fellowships (AE)

FELLOWSHIP DESCRIPTION

Established in 1938 in honor of famed pilot and Zontian, Amelia Earhart, the Amelia Earhart Fellowship is awarded annually to women pursuing Ph.D./doctoral degrees in aerospace-related sciences and aerospace-related engineering. The Fellowship of US$10,000, awarded to 35 Fellows around the globe each year, may be used at any university or college offering accredited post-graduate courses and degrees in these fields.

ELIGIBILITY

Women of any nationality pursuing a Ph.D./doctoral degree who demonstrate a superior academic record in the field of aerospace-related sciences and aerospace-related engineering are eligible. Please note that post-doctoral research programs are not eligible for the Fellowship. Members and employees of Zonta International or the Zonta International Foundation are also not eligible to apply for the Fellowship. Current fellows may apply to renew the Fellowship for a second year and will undergo the same application and evaluation procedures as first-time applicants.

APPLICATION PROCESS

The Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowship Committee reviews the applications and recommends recipients to the Zonta International Board of Directors. All applicants will be notified of their status by the end of April.

DEADLINE

Applications for the 2016 Fellowships must be received or post-marked by 15 November 2016 to be considered. Applications that are incomplete or late due to postal delays will not be considered. For questions, please contact programs@zonta.org.

Amelia Earhart "Ik wil het doen omdat ik het wil doen" Het Nieuwsblad 02/07/2017

Op 2 juli 1937 verdween een van de meest tot de verbeelding sprekende pilotes

Ze pakte het ene record na het andere, tot ze plots spoorloos verdween boven de Stille Oceaan

Het is intussen 80 jaar geleden dat ze verdween, en nog steeds wordt er volop naar haar gezocht: Amelia Earhart. Deze tot de verbeelding sprekende avonturierster was op weg om de eerste vrouwelijke piloot te worden die de wereld rondvloog. Tot het onderweg plots misliep en niemand haar nog zag of hoorde. Exact 8 decennia later is haar verdwijning nog altijd een mysterie. Amelia Earhart, geboren op 24 juli 1897, was al als kind bijzonder avontuurlijk. Ze klom in bomen of ging op jacht. En ze was gefascineerd door ‘mannenberoepen’, en dan vooral door vrouwen die zich aan zo’n beroep waagden....
