History
District 27 was born from the split of big former District 14 into the 5 new Districts 14-27-28-29-30 at the District Conference in Lausanne in 1993.
At that time, many Zontians considered this division as a tragedy. They said they did not understand how Zonta could wish to divide Europe into several districts at the very moment when politicians and active citizens were making efforts to unit the people for building the European community. After many years of discussions, the favourable votes of the ZC delegates could be achieved only by maintening internationality into each of the 5 new Districts 14-27-28-29-30. In order to reach it, the countries including many zonta-clubs were divided into several areas and scattered into different districts. That is why France was splitted into 3 areas belonging to the new 3 districts 27-29-30 and Germany was splitted into 5 areas belonging to the new 5 Districts 14-27-28-29-30.
As a result, District 27 was originaly formed with 5 countries or parts of countries: Belgium/Luxembourg/ 1/3 of France(East, Center- East, South-East)/ 1/5 of Germany (Noth-East)/ Poland. Soon after, Ukraine joined it as its 6th country.

Histoire
