Newsletter Service and UN Committee Special Edition

March-April 2016 This is an special edition Zonta Newsletter about the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW ) from 14 to 24 March 2016 at the UN Headquarters New York. 50 Zontians attended the CSW, 3 Zontians of District 27, our Governor Florence Fischer-Herber, the Area Director of Area 01 Claire van der Ent Braat and I. I did make arrangements for the two Zontians to attend the EU reception and a lunch with the Dutch Minister of Women Affairs and the Dutch CSW delegation at the Dutch UN Embassy. Zonta International Position Statements

Dear International Committee Chairmen and Governors with a copy to the International Board, At their February Board meeting, the Zonta International Board approved three new position statements on migration, prostitution and trafficking in persons. Copies of the approved statements are attached. We encourage Zonta clubs to familiarize themselves with these statements and to use them to support advocacy actions at the local and national levels. Equal Payday. Message from Megan Radavich Director of Programs & Advocacy

Across the globe, women are paid less than men. This gender pay gap is the result of direct discrimination in which women are paid less than men for doing the same job and in the undervaluing of women’s work and the segregation of the labor market. In response to these inequalities, many countries now observe Equal Pay Day, the significance of which varies from country to country. In the United States, Equal Pay Day is observed on the 12th of April, the date women must work into the new calendar year to earn what men earned the previous year. In other countries, Equal Pay Day is observed later in the year to signify at which point women are no longer paid for their work, compared to men. see attachment for more read more »

Newsletter September 2015 A new Zonta year will start after the wonderful Summertime The latest session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) was about the outcome of the 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) and the 12 points of the Beijing+20 “Platform for Action”. All those goals have not yet been fully realised. Together with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) for the global agenda they form the POST 2015 Agenda. Zonta International Biennial Goals 2014 - 2016

These biennial goals are aligned to Zonta International's objects and strategic goals and outline Zonta's focus for 2014-2016. The goals build on those goals of the biennium 2012-2014 and provide the parameters within which districts and clubs can develop their own biennial and strategic goals.

Each district and club also needs to take into account Zonta's mission while responding to its local needs.

Goal 1 Service: ZI selects the International projects among proposals from UN Agencies with focus on root causes: delaying early marriage, prevention of violence through education, improving women's health.

Goal 2 Advocacy: All advocacy actions shall be in line with the strategic plan and shall have measurable impact.
