Early Sunday mornings in the middle of the town of Oldenburg are usually quiet. But on the morning of June 16th one freshly washed car after the other showed up on the marketplace. Casually dressed women in sunglasses and trainers appeared from Volkswagens, Mercedes cars and others, not exactly Formula One approved vehicles.

They helped themselves to coffee first, layed out on a small table, where glass jugs had stickers with “Driver One”, “Driver Two” and “Navigator” on them: ready for the day ahead. The Zonta Club Oldenburg held its first car rally! It was quite a show! Not only did Zontians and guests have to answer (very difficult) questions and find remote places in Oldenburg that were not always close by – they even paid to do so!

Starting fees came in as a donation for the Zonta Campagne “Zonta says no”. The organisation team had put together a very interesting tour through Oldenburg and its surroundings, with questions and places, about the well known and not so well known women who lived and worked in that area. Throughout the day, teams met for coffee and lunch – but the results remained a secret! In the evening after dinner at a cosy restaurant, the winners were announced – and solutions given. There were big surprises and lots of laughter, especially when answers had gone totally askew. But one thing is for sure: next year another Rally by the Zonta Club Oldenburg will be held and everybody is welcome!
