My name is Margaux and this summer, I had the opportunity to participate in the Zonta Youth Mobility Exchange Program. Since I had never been to Ukraine, I thought it would be interesting for me to go to a country that was completely new for me. My exchange experience in Ukraine is one I will never forget. Although it only lasted for one week in July, from Sunday 23 July until Saturday 29 July, I learned a lot about the country and the people living there during those 7 days. I went to Uzhhorod, a city close to the border of Hungary. Getting there wasn’t an easy task. I first had to take a flight to Budapest, Hungary, and from Budapest airport to Uzhhorod it takes around 5 hours by car, depending on how many people have to cross the border control. Luckily my host Myroslava Kalamunyak, member of Zonta Uzhhorod, welcomed me with open arms at 4.30 in the morning when I arrived with the taxi. I immediately felt at home. The people in Uzhhorod are incredibly open and warm and Myroslava and her assistant Marianne, have done everything to make this week unforgettable and comfortable for me. I met a lot of interesting people, some of whom I still have contact with, did a lot of fun trips and everybody welcomed me with so much hospitality. I would have stayed longer if I could and I am looking forward to go back one day. If you have the chance, I recommend everybody to take part in this mobility program because it is an enriching experience.
